At Footlights we offer classes from 2 to 18 years! Scroll down to find out about all the brilliant things we have on offer!
From September all disciplines for each age group will be taught on one evening. Following the government guidelines on COVID-19 and children's out of school activities we will have no more than 15 children in the studio at 1 time and mixing groups within the school will be minimised.
Footlights teachers are associated with the ISTD Ballet accredited examination board. Members work on technique and exercises and can progress through graded examinations. We also offer technique classes which can complement any dancer even if they do not take Ballet grades.
Progressive Ballet Technique
Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) is an innovative body-conditioning and strengthening program. One of the important elements used in the PBT method is muscle memory which helps to improve students' understanding of core stability, weight placement and alignment. Each exercise in the PBT program has been developed with care and guidance with a team of physiotherapists. Tina and Esther are fully qualified teachers and look forward to bringing these skills to our dancers.
Emphasis is on the learning of solid technique, increasing strength, coordination, musicality, rhythm and stage presence. Classes follow the ISTD syllabus, where there is the opportunity to enter for examinations.
Advanced 12+ based on ability
Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, lyrical and ballet. Classes encourage freedom of expression as well as strong technique. Classes are from age 8 upwards. Older students will have the opportunity to take part in the new ISTD contemporary syllabus examinations.
Footlights is fully prepared to join national competitions once these are able to start back again following lockdown. To be considered to join a competition group you must be attending a graded dance class with Footlights.
Little Toes Ballet
Explore an introduction to Ballet for children age 2-5 years. We encourage natural co-ordination, rhythm and movement incorporating basic ballet steps and technique. Classes are full of fun and imaginative games and activities using props such as scarves and pom poms. To join this class you don't need to be in one of our bubbles and parents can come and watch whilst following social distancing.
